About Cooperatives & Cooperatives Europe

Cooperatives Europe is the voice of cooperative enterprises in Europe. Our 84 members represent 141 million individual membercooperators owning 176,000 cooperative enterprises and provide jobs to 4,7 million European citizens – a force for economic growth and social change. View our flyer here.

Cooperatives are democratic enterprises that  exist to serve their members, whether they are the customers, employees or the local community. What’s more, these members are the owners, with an equal say in what the cooperative does, shaping the decisions their cooperative makes. Members, such as farmers or freelancers, taxi drivers or tenants, often work together for a common aim, .and sharing the profit is a way to keep it fair and make it worthwhile. Rather than rewarding outside investors, a cooperative shares its profits amongst the members.

Cooperatives Europe’s key priorities

Cooperatives Europe works across all sectors and represents cooperatives of all shapes and sizes. Our priorities range form level playing field and fair taxation to a people-centred collaborative economy, international cooperative development and actions for youth to take control over their own lives. With cooperatives as EU’s key partners, the Future of Europe will become more sustainable, fair and people-centred. We invite you to read our strategy paper with our priorities and recommendations, which have been developed together with our national and sectorial members. Cooperatives Europe calls for a permanent and constructive doalogue with the European institutions to build tomorrow’s Europe.
